How to Give Your Home a Sparkling Spring Clean Makeover

The tradition of spring cleaning might be as old as the concept of houses themselves, but these days, why not give the annual chore a modern spin?

A clean home is a healthier home, and can sometimes even positively impact your home’s valuation in an appraisal.

Follow our tips below to simplify spring cleaning, save time and energy, and give your home a sparkling makeover in the process.

1. Make a plan

Don’t start until you’ve got a written strategy for how you’ll approach cleaning and sprucing up your home.

Allow you and your family sufficient time to get the job done. Spring cleaning the entire house can take a lot of energy and wear you out, so plan to spend a few weekends getting the job done.

2. Plan a room-by-room approach

Resist the urge to tackle your entire home at once. Plan out your strategy going room by room. Tackling one room at a time saves time and distracted, inefficient back-and-forth movement. Straighten and clean one room at a time.  I always love tackling the kitchen down to the interior of the Refridgerator.

Keep your Refridgerator tidy and make meal prep a dream with these refrigerator food storage boxes, which let you pre-pack your produce, leftovers, and meals for the next day.

These boxes feature a silicone sealing strip and lock on all sides. A must-have for keeping food fresher for longer, avoiding fridge odor, and saving costs on groceries. Sold in a set of 2.

3. Make sure you’ve got the right tools

Before you lift the first sponge, check to ensure you’ve got the tools you’ll need to complete the day’s assigned tasks.

Nothing’s worse than getting all the way to the floors and realizing you’re completely out of floor cleaner. Make a list before you start and check off your tools and cleaning supplies so you can get what you need before you begin.

For beautiful and sustainable cleaning tools we are a big fan of Bloomist They have the best responsibly sourced, sustainably hand made products for a natural home. All soulful with a story to tell.

4. Start by clearing the clutter before you clean

MODULAR FILING CABINET

If you want to streamline your spring cleaning process, eliminate the clutter first. That way, you’ll have less to clean but you’ll also be able to visually assess every individual area of the room you’re working on and decide what needs to be done.

Once the clutter is cleared you will want a strategy on where to store items. From concealed cupboards, to filing cabinets to outdoor storage bins - organization is key!

We love concealed cabinetry to hide visual clutter. Or open shelving paired with baskets is great for items in constant use.

5. Start each cleaning session with the harder items first

It’s really tough to make a tired, overworked body keep going when your brain knows the hardest part is still ahead of you. Start with the hardest labor first, then move on to the easier tasks.

6. Check laundering instructions on special items

MULBERRY SILK PILLOWS

Your pillows, your mattress pads, your curtains, and more can and should all be laundered from time to time. Now’s a great time to take care of those jobs!

Make sure you’re familiar with the manufacturer’s washing and drying instructions before you begin. Include your laundry plan in your room-by-room written strategy.

Or is it time to switch over to new pillows and summer duvets? OCOCHI creates duvets made from 100% All-Natural Bamboo from fiber to fabric. Bamboo is one of the world's most breathable fibers, significantly reducing humidity and the risk of overheating at night.

100% pesticide-free viscose from Bamboo, their comforters are perfect for those who suffer with allergies from feathers or alternative fill nasties. They are also great for hot sleepers, exceptionally warm/tropical climates, and extremely hot summers.

We also love their Mulberry Silk filled pillows - Filled with clouds of Grade AAA Mulberry Silk and encased in premium 100% Bamboo Viscose. The cuddliest pillow you will ever sleep on.

Or perhaps it is time for some fresh new linens and duvets. We love the natural linen bed bundles by The Citizenry (Free US shipping and Easy Returns).

Now that you have given your home a de-tox, let’s keep it healthy down to the last detail. By eliminating materials like flame retardants and polyurethane foam from their certified organic natural mattresses, Naturepedic supports an organic holistic lifestyle while protecting the environment.

Naturepedic won the Good Housekeeping 2021 Parenting Award for their 2-in-1 Organic Kids Mattress, as well as the “Best Sustainable Mattress” distinction in the Good Housekeeping 2021 Bedding Awards for their EOS Pillow-Top Organic Mattress.  We love supporting brands that are committed to raising the bar in sustainable excellence.

7. Get the whole family involved

No matter how young your children may be, if they can feed themselves, they can help with spring cleaning. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking you have to do it all yourself. Even very young children can help sort and put away toys. Make sure everyone who lives in your home shares the load.

8. Don’t forget the outside!

From your yard and garden to the grill on the deck, your home’s exterior needs a little seasonal TLC, just like its inside.

Set aside some time to scrub that grill, sweep off surfaces, and power wash your windows and siding.

And our favorite area, the garden. Keep it clean and Green! Fresh planting and even more important. We look to ARBER for offers on Plant Wellness Products to Nourish your Greenspaces.

Or are you ready to start your first garden? We love the way Garden In Minutes helps make starting your best garden effortless with tool-free cypress garden beds and a built in watering system Garden Grid watering system so you get straight to the planting!

Ready, set, clean!

You don’t have to wait until spring to give your home a spring-clean makeover. You can also use these strategies to get your home ready for a fast home sale.

Either way, brightening up your home and clearing away the winter’s gloom can be a great way to create and welcome a brand new start.

As my Mom always used to say, “Out with the old, in with the new!” If you want new things to enter your life, you need to create the space. What are you going to make space for? I know what I am.
