11 Stylish Ideas on How to Create the Perfect Walk in Wardrobe

Have you always dreamed of having the perfect walk in wardrobe? When you look good you feel good! Imagine stepping into your Master Wardrobe that is just as stylish as the beautiful clothes you own. We believe a walk in wardrobe should give you a sense of easy and discovery and feel like you are in a luxury boutique. Come discover some wonderful ways to keep your closet glamorous and organized!

1. Clean and Concealed Wardrobe Doors

The first step in creating your dream wardrobe is to consider how it will function. Do you like to walk in and see all your wonderful clothes and accessories on display? Or do you prefer a clean approach? If you have enough space to have fully operable doors and perhaps want to protect delicate silks - this might be the option for you. Closed doors help to maintain a clean look free of visual clutter.

2. Open Up Your Closet

If you prefer to see all of your clothes in one straight shot to plan the perfect outift than you may want to consider keeping your closet all open.

Typically we like to provide at least one area for long hanging items (long dresses and full length coats and any special items that need to fully hang). The rod should be mounted around 60” from the floor- but you may want to adjust to make it work with your specific conditions and adjacent items.

We then like to maximise space by creating double hanging areas. You typically want to leave about 3 feet between rods. Depending on your ceiling height and conditions both the single and double hanging areas may allow for an extra shelf above.

3. Create an Open/Closed Closet Combo

Variety is the Spice of Life!

If you are part neat freak, part organised chaos - like me - than you may want to relish in the best of both worlds.

Keep your hanging items open while providing some closed doors and drawers for some of the smaller items.

This will also save you from the need to maintain perfectly organised and folded t-shirts and athleisure.

4. Don’t forget the Small Stuff!

It’s the Little Details that matter! It is so much easier to maintain organization and order when everything has it’s designated place. Do you invest in beautiful bags, jewellery, or sunglasses? They deserve a home too.

5. Add a Central Wardrobe Island

To give your wardrobe that boutique retail feel, I like to add an island. You can use a glamorous stone reminiscent of high fashion retail stores. It provides a place to plan ahead. Do you have a wonderful event coming up? Set out your perfume, jewelery, and delicates so you are ready to get dressed with ease.

6. Create a Boutique Style Display Gallery

Often, the shoes are the last to be considered when styling the perfect outfit. I believe having a clean, eye-level view of all your strappy heels and beautiful boots is key.

In our recent Kensington Townhouse project, we created a floor-to-ceiling shoe storage area on pull-out rolling hinges, to allow for double-depth storage.

Putting on a sexy pair of heels makes you feel amazing and choosing the right one should feel just as good.

7. Keep it Clean and Serene

When your clothes and wardrobe are full of colour and details it is nice to have a quiet backdrop so your luxury good and favourite fashion has a place to stand out on it’s own. Let your clothes speak for themselves. Her Master Walk-In Wardrobe in out KENSINGTON TOWNHOUSE PROJECT used a mix of glamorous materials from a soft lacquered white bird’s eye maple veneer for the joinery to dark brown horn handles fitted with patinated bronze knuckle by OCHRE. A variety of luxe white fabrics in silks, velvets, and wools were used for the custom built-in window seat.

8. Add a Dressing Table

Just like an established Desk Area is important for getting your work done so is a nice dressing table for applying make up and those final touches. A nice dressing table can add some form form to the room and creates another designated area to store make up, brushes, perfumes, and small accessories.

9. Use Every Square Inch of Space

On every project we end up with some awkward space. Too small for most functions, but it’s not going to waste on my watch! Every square foot counts! This is when we have to get clever. On our Penthouse on the Park project we had a little room leftover in our custom built in wardrobe and vanity. However, it was not deep enough for standard storage, due to the concealed mechanical units behind, so how about some extra shoe storage? We created angled shelves with a front lip. The angle allowed the shoes to fit, as a flat shelf would not have allowed for this. We completed the look with beautiful metal and suede Stornway pulls by Holland and Sherry

10. Plan a Place for Delicates and Somewhere to Reflect

Getting ready for date night? A special occasion? I love planning an area where putting on the delicate and intimate touches feels just as special. Those sentimental pieces of jewelery, silk and lace lingerie, a soft spray of your favorite perfume, that final touch of lipstick. A small designated space with a beautiful mirror let’s you ease into your evening.

11. Designate Somewhere to Sit Pretty!

Planning the perfect outfit can be tiring. It’s nice to designate a space to sit down to put on those special heels or to layout your selection. It’s also a great way to add a bright burst of color or some additional pattern or texture.
